Answer to the Essential Question:

Effects:

Irrigation: When industries dump their waste into major rivers such as the Nile and Congo, all the pollution flows downstream to the farmers who irrigate their crops. Then the farmers use the polluted water to irrigate the crops and then the crops die and cause the people to starve.

Trade: When the crops die, the economy falls because the country's people have nothing to trade to make money. Therefore, many people in the countries remain poor and so does the economy.

Industry: Poor water quality and quantity negatively affects industry because a lot of the workers can get sick from poor water quality and some of them can get dehydrated from lack of water quantity. Main rivers like the Nile and Congo can also get polluted and shrink because of overuse from civilians. This causes less transportation and shipping through waterways.

Drinking Water: Due to the unequal distribution of water in Africa, many countries will receive scarce amounts of water which causes them to have a very minute drinking water supply. Water pollution contaminates some water causing peolpe and animals to have various illnesses such as River Blindness, Elephantitis, and Malaria.
